Lakota Waldorf School Kindergarten

Teaching our children with respect and love

Accepting children age 3 1/2 - 6 years old.

The teachers at the Lakota Waldorf Kindergarten strive to support each child's own individual development. Each child is met with love and respect.

Daily Activities

Lakota storytelling, crafts, water painting, modeling, coloring with beeswax, hand games, nature walk, circle time, gardening. We emphasize in teaching the basics of every day Lakota language in a rhythmical playful way. As the children in the Lakota Waldorf kindergarten move in the rhythm of the day and season, they experience the sacredness and beauty of life.

Circle time and stories in Lakota and English, we help to develop the imagination and a loving relationship to the world we live in. In the Lakota Waldorf Kindergarten, Lakota Language and Culture are central to our work.

"You have always noticed that everything an Indian does is in a circle and that is because the Power of the World always works in circles, and everything tries to be round…The sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power, whirls. Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing, and always come back to where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so is everything where power moves"
